Role Commitment: Quarterly Board Meetings (daytime) plus time to handle any safeguarding matters. Board meetings are held in Inverurie.

GCRA are recruiting for a Board Trustee who will have responsibility for the area of Safeguarding. Previous board experience is not necessary but the ability to provide oversight, scrutiny and direction is.

GCRA+ is a health charity, which was founded in 2002 by three cardiac patients to establish and provide Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise classes in Grampian, led by professionally trained specialist exercise instructors.

Around 2,500 people have directly benefitted from attending our specialist exercise classes. We currently lead a network of weekly 'Healthy Heart' & 'Strength & Balance' exercise classes at community venues throughout Aberdeen City & Aberdeenshire.

We have recently reviewed and updated our Safeguarding Policy and Safeguarding Procedures, and are currently enrolling as a qualifying organisation with Volunteer Scotland Disclosure Services (VSDS) to process PVG applications. We are now seeking a Trustee with experience of safeguarding to the staff team and specifically the Services Co-ordinator.

You will be required to act as the lead for safeguarding matters, with responsibility for managing concerns about protected adults. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Working with others within the organisation to create a positive inclusive environment.
  • Play a lead role in developing and establishing the organisation's approach to safeguarding adults and in maintaining/reviewing the organisation's policies and procedures for safeguarding adults in line with current legislation and best practice.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of the safeguarding adult policy, procedures and resources throughout the organisation, to our and partners as required.
  • Contribute to ensuring other policies and procedures are consistent with the organisation's commitment to safeguarding adults.
  • Advise on the organisation's training needs.
  • Receive reports of and manage cases of poor practice and abuse reported to the organisation - including an appropriate recording system.
  • Chair the Case Management Group to co-ordinate the Case Management process.
  • Manage liaison with, and referrals to, external agencies for example adult social-care services and the police.
  • Create a central point of for internal and external individuals and agencies concerned about the safety of adults within the organisation.
  • Provide advice and to the organisation.
  • Represent the organisation at external meetings related to safeguarding.

All Trustees are required to complete the OSCR Trustee Declaration Form and be happy for their name to be visible on Companies House. Trustees are also required to be a member of the PVG Scheme.
